Victoria, British Columbia – British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) has publicly released our 2018 Responsible Investing Annual Report.
As a long-term investor managing funds on behalf of 31 clients, our primary mandate is to meet our clients’ investment objectives. Assessing and managing investment risk is an integral part of how we meet our clients’ expected returns.
Our clients share our belief that companies that employ robust environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices are better positioned to generate long-term value than companies with less favourable practices. When investors take ESG factors into account they can better understand, manage, and mitigate risks associated with long-term investments. Responsible investing is a core component of BCI’s investment strategy and is embedded in our investment analysis and decision making. And once invested, BCI is an active owner.
As a signatory of the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) we uphold our commitment to transparency and communicating our initiatives. The 2018 Responsible Investing Annual Report provides an overview of the year’s activities as an active owner and participant in the capital markets. It also includes an update on our alignment with the Financial Stability Board’s Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure, which we initially disclosed in 2018 in our Climate Action Plan.
As a large scale investor, we are committed to advancing responsible investing within the investment industry and we are honoured to be named – for the second year in a row – in New America’s 25 Most Responsible Asset Allocators.
