Gordon J. Fyfe
Chief Executive Officer / Chief Investment Officer

Gordon J. Fyfe serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer at British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI), one of Canada’s leading institutional investors with over $250 billion of gross managed assets for the public sector of British Columbia.
With a distinguished career spanning over four decades in the investment and finance industry, Gordon brings a wealth of expertise to his role at BCI. Before joining the organization in July 2014, he held the position of President and Chief Executive Officer at the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSPIB) in Montreal, Canada, for 11 years. His professional journey began with J.P. Morgan in New York and London, later transitioning to senior executive roles at TAL Global Asset Management and Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, both large Canadian institutional investors.
Gordon’s previous board memberships include Telesat Canada, TimberWest, and Revera Inc. He has also served as the Chair of Emory Center for Alternative Investments at Emory University, Atlanta, and as the Chair and Director of the Pacific Pension Institute. Currently, he contributes as an Audit and Investment Committee member for the Echo Foundation in Montreal, Canada, and as a Board Director at Photonic Inc., serving on both the Finance and Audit Committee and the Nominating and Governance Committee.
Under Gordon’s leadership, BCI has experienced significant growth and transformation.
The corporation’s internal portfolio management increased from 59% to 83%, while private assets expanded from 28% to 52%. This enhanced BCI’s reputation as a prudent investor, with AUM rising from $110 billion in FY2014 to $250 billion in FY2024. In addition, the funded weighted average ratios for pension clients increased from 94% in 2014 to 108% in 2024, with BCI generating $8.3 billion in value creation by outperforming the benchmarks in terms of relative returns.
During the period between 2014-2024, BCI launched QuadReal in 2016, a strategic initiative designed to streamline clients’ real estate programs, which were previously managed by multiple external entities. It also integrated Equity and Fixed Income departments into Public Markets, transitioned Research & Risk Management into Investment Strategy & Risk and divided Private Placements into Private Equity and Infrastructure & Renewable Resources. Moreover, BCI introduced two new operations departments: Corporate Data & Operations and Corporate Risk & Audit. The expansion of ESG teams across all asset classes, now led by the first Global Head of ESG, is a further testament to the corporation’s social responsibility efforts.
The focus on sustainability of BCI’s portfolio has been crucial, resulting in a perfect 100% score on the Governance, Sustainability, and Resilience (GSR) Scoreboard in 2024, a significant increase from the 80% score in 2020.
In addition, since 2020, BCI has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, BC’s Top Employers, and Canada’s Family-Friendly Employers for five consecutive years.
An alumnus of the University of British Columbia, Gordon holds a degree in commerce and an MBA from INSEAD, France. In recognition of his exceptional achievements, he was appointed to the Order of British Columbia, the province’s highest honor, in 2023.
